Monkey Class

Monkey Class is a lively and enthusiastic class who enjoy learning, playing, and exploring both indoors and outdoors — whatever the weather. Communication is woven throughout everything we do and is supported using Makaton, symbols, and photographs to help all pupils engage and express themselves. We are working hard to develop our independence, attention skills, the ability to work alongside and with others, and turn‑taking. We are very proud of how independent we are, confidently carrying our own bags and lunch boxes each day.

Stories are brought to life through rich sensory experiences. We explore props that can be touched and investigated, actions that can be copied, scents to smell, and sounds to listen to, helping us to fully engage with and enjoy storytelling.

We continue to enjoy being active and making use of different apparatus in the classroom, the PE hall, and outdoor areas. Being outside is something we particularly enjoy, and we take every opportunity to explore and learn through active play.

Our afternoons are always busy and exciting. This is when we take part in our wider curriculum, exploring topic‑based activities as well as playing together during our exploring afternoons. Pupils are encouraged to play alongside one another, developing early social and play skills. A wide range of toys and activities are available both inside the classroom and outdoors.
