World Around Us

The curriculum area ‘World Around Us’ teaches pupils about the world around them and their contribution to it. Pupils learn about differences and similarities between themselves and others and have experiences of other cultures and religions. We explore and celebrate diversity within our school, local community and beyond. We want our pupils to develop a sense of belonging and understand their contribution to their home and school environment, their community and the wider world.

The core areas of the World Around Us include:

  • Myself
  • My Home
  • My Environment
  • My Community
  • My World
  • Technology
  • Online Safety
  • Religious Education

Developing an understanding of technology and its use is pivotal in today’s society. It is also a wonderful tool we harness regularly with our pupils to aid communication and engagement. The use of technology is threaded through our whole curriculum. In the World Around Us, we focus on developing our use of technology in different contexts and for different purposes. We also learn about how to stay safe online and our roles and responsibilities when using technology at home and school.

We explore the World Around us through our termly topics and specific Religious Education (RE) days and weeks. Our learning activities are relevant and appropriate and presented in fun, practical ways that enable our pupils to engage with concepts in the wider world.
