Physical Development

At Forest Park School we want all of our pupils to lead active lifestyles, being fit and healthy learners. Each pupil has their individual physical abilities and we offer a challenging yet supportive curriculum that promotes achievement for all. We offer a range of sporting and physical learning opportunities that focuses on skill development, strength, team work, confidence and safety.

Our core areas for Physical Development include:

  • Body Awareness, including Safety
  • Fine Motor
  • Movement to Music
  • Outdoor Adventurous Activities
  • Water Confidence and Swimming
  • Health Related Fitness and Physiotherapy
  • Ball Skills and Team Games
  • Gymnastics and Gross Motor

We work closely with other agencies to ensure therapeutic elements of pupil’s individual programmes are integrated into our Physical Development offering. This is delivered through personalised and bespoke programming as appropriate to the individual.

Physical Development is often a motivating factor for many of our pupils and so we ensure this is considered in all areas of the curriculum. Offering practical tasks that require movement often allows optimal learning to take place as well as supporting pupils to remain regulated.

Physical Development lessons are also taught in isolation with a key focus and are often linked to the topics within key stages. We make use of resources within our school and the local community to develop provision. This includes visits to a local swimming centre, parks, activity centres and links with other schools. Sports day provides opportunities for pupils to be part of a team, practising skills to gain individual and class points. Pupils are awarded for not only sporting abilities but for other areas such as sportsmanship, supporting others and following instructions.
