Cherry Class
Cherry class is a mixed Key Stage 4 and 5 class with pupils from Year 10 to Year 14 on the Secondary site. We learn through a sensory curriculum and are very much enjoying our new sensory room on the secondary site. We start each day with our physiotherapy stretches and waking up our senses. We are working on developing the use of all our senses throughout the day to enable us to better explore the world around us and especially enjoy our Sensology sessions, which relate to our current topic or the season.
We have lots of fun in our sensory food sessions, exploring ingredients and practicing mixing and pouring and our sensory stories are another favourite. We also enjoy learning outdoors and participate in weekly Forest School sessions, where we enjoy a range of different nature activities, helping us learn about the environment around us.
Our physiotherapy programmes are an important feature throughout our day and we work really hard on our postural management to allow us the best opportunities to learn. When we get the opportunity, hydrotherapy is also an important (and fun!) activity that we enjoy. We take every opportunity throughout the school day to practice our communication skills, however that may look for us as individuals and are working hard to develop our life skills, to allow us to be as independent as possible.
